How To Use A Vibrator - 10 Helpful Tips

Who Created The Vibrator

Vibrators have been around for centuries. The first electric vibrator was created by British doctor Joseph Mortimer Granville, but not for the function that has unfortunately crowded mainstream media. Based ironically off one female scholar’s incorrectly stated “hypothesis,” most think male doctors were fatigued with giving women “pelvic massages” by hand to cure hysteria symptoms. Symptoms that only subsided after the female was coaxed into a paroxysm (orgasm). However, this widespread false insinuation has gone without fact-checking and undermines the core of female sexual empowerment. This idea leaves female pleasure in the hands of a patriarchal society. There have been attempts to mitigate this detrimental myth which we highly suggest reading versus the regurgitated falsies that crowd the first few pages of Google.

Mainstream use of the vibrator by any member of the family to help a range of ailments increased the popularity of the personal vibrating massager in homes all over America. Discreetly advertised at the time, many were using vibrators to do more than shrink wrinkles. Even though times have dramatically changed the original look of the device (thank goodness), the known benefits of using a vibrator have increased. Many can benefit from using a vibrating toy regardless of your gender or sexual orientation. Read on to discover how to use a few types of vibrators on the market today.

Some Vibrator Types & Uses:

Shop Our Bullet Vibrator Collection

  • Bullets: Bullet vibrators are named such due to the small,” bullet” like design. Normally for external use only.

Shop Our Love Egg Vibrator Collection

  • Love Eggs: Similar to bullets as they are normally more compact. However, most can be inserted internally with a safe removal design. The term bullet and love egg are used interchangeably in the market. Femi Toys classifies this type of toy as a love egg due to the usual retrieval string or cord structure design on the end of the egg.

Shop Our Rabbit Style Vibrator Collection

  • Rabbits: Constructed for dual stimulation, rabbit-style vibrators have both a penetrative shaft and a clitoral stimulator that sometimes resembles “rabbit” ears. Common features on a rabbit include rotating, vibrating, and/or thrusting shaft.

Shop Our Body Massager Vibrator Collection

  • Body Massager Wands: Can pack a lot of power! These body massagers usually have a wand-like shape with various vibrations levels and patterns. A great option for massaging your sensitive bits as well as achy muscles in your back, legs, etc.

10 Helpful Vibrator Techniques:

1. Rub around the head. Indirect stimulation can be very stimulating! A lot of people do not prefer direct stimulation to the clitoral or penis head. Instead, try moving the vibration around the prepuce (female clitoral hood or male foreskin). Playtime with a vibrator may be prolonged with this technique as it is not direct stimulation to the very sensitive genital head.

2. Use on nipples. Or other erogenous zones! There are no rules that state you have to place a vibrator only around your genital area. Move it to other hot spots like your nipples, inner elbows, or run it up your legs. Just be mindful of areas to avoid heavy vibration like your face and neck.

3. Place near or on the clitoris head to enable deeper penetration. This is a great idea to try with a partner or solo. Clitoris stimulation can induce intense relaxation feelings quickly, combined with the right amount of vibration, this may allow for deeper penetration as you get turned on and the cervix moves up to lengthen the vaginal canal.

4. Light pressure first then increase it. You don’t want to start with too much pressure too fast because sensitivity may come quicker. Instead, hold the vibrator gently against your sweet spot and slowly hold it closer against you as the feelings intensify.

5. Move around the entire area. Don’t forget about the creases and crevices that get overlooked. Try running the vibrations around the perineum, in between the lip folds, along the shaft, or any other nearby spot.

6. Use it with a partner. Toy use is not just for solo play. Exciting partner play can be achieved for any type of couple. Not only can vibrators allow easier penetration, but they can also be used to achieve dual orgasm or spicy foreplay! Try it out and use a vibrator simultaneously or masturbate separately while your partner watches.

7. Use your non-dominant hand. Doing this may simulate feelings of another person touching you. Your opposite hand may not be as skilled as the dominant hand creating excitement as you try to catch the rhythm. You also may be able to get to places not normally accessible by your dominant hand introducing new sensations.

8. Don’t go all the way. While you certainly can get to the finish line, sometimes almost making it there can be just as good and useful. Using vibrators as a way to warm up, or get into other activities can spice up the usual.

9. Try different settings. Fast, slow, a steady rumble, these are just a few of the plethora of options some vibrators come with. It can be easy to just switch it on and go, but try to play with the different speeds and levels to get a unique pleasurable feeling.

10. Different body positions. Similar mechanics of using your non-dominant hand, getting into different positions can produce interesting responses. For example, getting into the doggy style position uses gravity to increase blood flow to your hot spots. Reach your hand through your legs to stimulate your genitals for an exhilarating fresh vibration.

Vibrator Use Tips:

  • Make sure to use only body-safe materials. Materials made out of TPR/TPE, Cyberskin, rubber or other porous materials will harm due to the bacteria these materials harvest.
  • Learn your vibrator. Sometimes having a glance over the user manual or just going through the functions can make your experience better.
  • Try to use it more than once. Was the battery fully charged, was it only at one level the entire time, or too focused on one spot? So many variables could have affected how the first experience was to you so only after multiple uses should you rate the toy.
  • Use lube to make things glide around easier. Make sure to take note of what the toy is made out of as different lubricants work best for certain materials. For example, water-based lubricant works best with silicone material.
  • A vibrator can be used to achieve pleasurable feelings for anyone. It does not matter what you identify as or what parts you have. Be open, explore and have fun!
